The Lake Forest College men's soccer team hosted and defeated Ripon College 2-0 in Midwest Conference play on Tuesday.
The Foresters jumped out to an early lead at the 13:42 mark when junior
Brett Klemes netted his third goal of the season. Sophomore
Peter Cirbo's cross from the left sideline bouced past the intended target at the top of the box and found Klemes sprinting up the field. He blasted a shot into the top-left corner of the goal to put the home team on top.
The margin doubled in the 26th minute when sophomore
Nathan Kostovetsky got to a ball in the right side of the box before the goalie and crossed it to classmate
Nico Lomanto. He deflected it into a wide open net for his second score of the year.
The Foresters out-shot the Red Hawks 7-5 and had eight corner kick opportunities in the first half. Both teams attempted six more shots and had three corner kicks after halftime.
Lake Forest sophomore goalkeeper
Andrew Swacha stopped all seven of the Red Hawks' shots on goal in the game. It was his second shutout of the season and he now ranks sixth in program history with eight in his career.
The victory raised the Foresters' overall record on the season to 2-6-3 and they improved to 1-0-1 in conference play. Ripon fell to 8-3-0 overall and 0-2-0 in the league.
Lake Forest will host Knox College for Homecoming Saturday afternoon at 1:00.
