The Lake Forest College women's soccer team hosted and defeated St. Norbert College 3-0 on Mohr Field on Monday.
The Foresters quickly turned defense into offense to take an early lead just three-and-a-half minutes into the contest. A punt from senior goalkeeper
Franca Finch reached freshman
Annabelle Schroeder near midfield and Schroeder quickly played the ball up the right sideline. Junior
Izzy DeStefano outran the Green Knight defender to the ball and took one touch before firing a shot just inside the right post.
DeStefano also doubled the home team's lead at the 27:45 mark, lofting a free kick from just outside the top-right corner of the box just over the outstretched arms of the goalie and under the crossbar. It was her team-high seventh score of the season and the 20th of her career.
Lake Forest added to the lead less than six minutes later. A throw-in from the right sideline reached the box where it was headed up into the air by both teams before senior
Lauren Covarrubias was able to get off a shot that was saved by the Green Knight goalie. The ball, however, trickled past her and to just in front of the goal, where freshman
Maggie Balas was there to tap it in for her third tally of the year.
The Foresters out-shot their guests 9-2 in the first half and 9-5 in a scoreless second. Finch finished the day with four saves, including three after halftime, in her ninth career shutout.
Lake Forest improved to 4-2-2 this fall while St. Norbert fell to 3-3-0.
The Foresters will begin Midwest Conference play at Grinnell College on Saturday with kickoff scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
