The Lake Forest College women's soccer team began Midwest Conference play with a 4-0 triumph at Grinnell College on Saturday.
The first half of the game was scoreless, despite the Foresters out-shooting the home team 6-0 in the period.
Lake Forest finally broke through less than three-and-a-half minutes into the second half on a play that began with junior
Anna Hoffman gaining control of the ball just outside the Forester penalty box. She quickly passed it to classmate
Anna Gracia near midfield and Gracia's passed it up the right side of the field ahead of a sprinting
Izzy DeStefano. The third junior involved in the play caught up to the ball just outside the right side of the box and a moment before the goalkeeper. The players collided and the ball rolled into the goal for DeStefano's team-high eighth goal of the year.
The visitors struck again 10 minutes later when Gracia dribbled into the bos from the right side and had her cross carom off a Pioneer defender and over the line before the keeper could stop it.
The third tally came from Hoffman, who finished off a fast break by taking a cross from freshman
Maggie Balas and, while shielding a defender, kicked it into the left side of the goal with 19:15 to play in the contest.
The final goal of the contest came five minutes later. Balas played a well-placed through ball into the left half of the box to fellow freshman
Annabelle Schroeder, whose left-footed shot slipped just inside the right post for the score.
Gracia and Schroeder now have two goals apiece this season while Hoffman has five.
Lake Forest had a 14-3 advantage in shots on the day and senior goalie
Franca Finch needed just one save to earned the 10th shutout of her career.
The Foresters improved to 5-2-2 overall this season while Grinnell fell to 3-3-1.
Lake Forest will continue league play against visiting Ripon College Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
