The Lake Forest College women's soccer team defeated visiting Ripon College 6-0 on Mohr Field on Wednesday.
The Foresters led 2-0 at halftime with freshman
Maggie Balas contributing to both scores. She made the first of two quick passes across the top of the box that set up junior
Anna Hoffman for the official game-winner less than five-and-a-half minutes into the contest. Balas then netted her fourth goal of the season at the 11:43 mark, tucking her shot from the far-left side of the box just inside the top-right corner of the goal.
The home team added to its lead less than two minutes into the second half. Senior THeresa Presberg's corner kick from the right side met the head of Hoffman, who sent it past the Red Hawk goalie for her second score of the game and seventh this fall.
A corner kick from the other side of the field eventually led to the next goal just five minutes later. Multiple attempts by Ripon to clear the ball away were unsuccessful and senior
Greta Gerard took advantage, scoring from just inside the top of the box.
Hoffman earned her career-high-tying fifth point of the contest in the 67th minute. Her header off another corner kick was blocked by the Ripon goalie but was picked out of the air by the foot of senior
Lauren Covarrubias before the ball hit the ground and she blasted it into the left side of the goal.
The final score of the day came from sophomore
Ella Chicone, who kicked in classmate
Lola Halsband's cross from the right side.
The goals from Gerard, Covarrubias, and Chicone were their first of the season.
Lake Forest out-shot the Red Hawks 9-1 in each half and also had a 9-1 advantage in corner kicks for the game.
Forester senior goalkeeper
Franca Finch needed to make just one save to earn her third consecutive shutout and the 11th of her career.
Lake Forest improved to 6-2-2 overall and 2-0-0 in Midwest Conference play while Ripon fell to 2-6-3 overall and 0-1-1 in the league.
The Foresters will continue conference play against Knox College at home on Saturday. The Homecoming game is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m.
