Foresters Post Program's Best Scores for 18 and 36 Holes at Midwest Region Classic

9/21/2024 9:37:00 PM

The Lake Forest College women's golf team placed fifth and broke the program's 18-hole and 36-hole records at the 33-team Midwest Region Classic over the weekend.

The Foresters followed up Friday's 323 with a 312 on Saturday. The program's previous record round was a 315 recorded on day two of the Marian Invitational two weeks ago and this weekend's final tally of 635 was six strokes better than the previous 36-hole mark established during the first two rounds of last year's conference tournament.

Two players on the team also added entries to the program record book as individuals. A final score of 154 by junior Gabrielle Krebs and a 155 from classmate Alijah Campbell now rank fourth and tied-for-fifth in team annals, respectively. Krebs carded a total of three birdies during back-to-back rounds of 77 and Campbell was also under par on three holes while matching Krebs on Friday and coming within a shot of doing so on Saturday. They tied for 10th and 15th in the field of 190 golfers.

Freshman Libby Hearst did tie Krebs with a 77 in round two, improving by five strokes from her performance on Friday. Her final score of 159 was tied-for-28th at the event. Meanwhile, teammate Sydney Foulon tied for 70th with a 169 and fellow junior Ashlyn Bhatia's 175 put her in a tie for 100th place.

California Lutheran University was the team champion with a score of 615, seven shots better than runner-up Occidental College. Aurora University (626) and the University of Dubuque (627) were within 10 shots of the Foresters, who were five strokes ahead of sixth-place Spalding University.

The tournament was played at Brighton Dal Links in Kansasville, Wisconsin.

Lake Forest will return to Wisconsin to take on Milwaukee School of Engineering in a dual match next Saturday at Ives Grove Golf Links in Racine. Play will begin at 10:30 a.m.
