The Lake Forest College men's golf team posted the best 36-hole score in program history and finished seventh at the 44-team Midwest Region Classic on Friday and Saturday. The site of the event was Brighton Dale Links in Kansasville, Wisconsin.
The Foresters finished Friday atop the team standings with a 1-over 289, which matched the second-lowest round in school history. Saturday's 294, which ranks tied-for-10th in team annals gave Lake Forest a final tally of 583, one shot better than the previous two-day record set at last spring's conference championship tournament.
Sophomore
Tyler Schick was the Foresters top individual finisher and tied for 17th overall at 1-over for the tournament. He followed up a 74 on Friday with a season-best 71 in round two and completed the weekend with five birdies, including three on Saturday. It was Schick's second straight 36-hole score of 145, with is also tied for the program's seventh-best mark.Â
Senior
Luke Duffer and sophomore
Tyler Wengronowitz were just one stroke behind Schick and tied-for-25th in the 244-player field. Duffer posted back-to-back rounds of 73, although his up-and-down opening round included just eight pars while Saturday's more steady performance featured 15. Wengronowitz was at even-par after carding two birdies and two bogeys on Friday and had three birdies during Saturday's 74.
Junior
Ben Shamberg's 71 in round one featured four birdies and he finished the event three shots over par at 147, one stroke behind Duffer and Wengronowitz and tied-for-36th overall. Senior
Chris Petri had a 73 on Friday and matches Shamberg with a 76 in the second round. He tied for 58th place at 149.
Carthage College was the team champion at 566, nine strokes better than runner-up Wheaton College. At 583, Lake Forest was within two shots of fourth-place Calvin University (581) and third place California Lutheran University and Illinois Wesleyan University (582 each) and one ahead of the University of Wisconsin-Stout.
The Foresters will finish the fall portion of their schedule at next Sunday and Monday's UW-Stout Fall Invitational. The event will be held at Grand Geneva Resort in Lake Geneva Wisconsin.
