The Forester volleyball team continued its season with a pair of matches at Wisconsin Lutheran College Friday night.
Senior
Juli Barrientos racked up 17 digs, the most by a Lake Forest player this fall, in a 25-17, 25-21, 25-15 loss to the host school to start the evening. Other team-leading totals included six kills from freshmanÂ
Melania Mathieux, 13 assists and three aces by junior
Lilly Robinson, and three blocks from sophomoreÂ
Simisola Osinaike.
The Warriors won six of the first seven points and the Foresters got no closer than three the rest of the first set. Lake Forest began the second with four straight points and did not trail until a four-point run by the home team made the score 19-16. Lake Forest led set three 9-7 but was outscored 18-6 from that point forward.
Robinson led the Foresters with seven kills and 13 assists against Carroll. She and Mathieux each served up a pair of aces, Osinake recorded three more blocks, and Barrientos added seven digs to her total on the day.
The Pioneers won 19 of 23 points, including the final eight in a row, to finish off the first set 25-12. The Foresters never led in set two and Carroll gradually pulled away to take it 25-17. After dropping the first eight points of set three, Lake Forest battled back and eventually led 23-21 before the Pioneers took first of the next six points and the match.
Lake Forest will play at Concordia University Wisconsin Tuesday night at 7:00 before hosting Ripon College at the same time in next Friday's Midwest Conference opener.
