The Lake Forest College women's soccer team hosted and defeated Milwaukee School of Engineering 2-1 Monday evening on Mohr Field.
After a scoreless first half, the Raiders netted the game's first goal off a corner kick just 46 seconds into the second. MSOE had 10 corner kicks in the contest, including eight in the second half.
The Foresters evened the score less than five minutes later when junior
Izzy DeStefano converted a penalty kick opportunity for her team-high fifth goal of the season. The stage for the game-tying goal was set by
Anna Diebold being fouled just inside the box while trying to turn with the ball.
What proved to be the game-winner came from fellow junior
Anna Hoffman with 16:39 on the clock. Junior
Caitlin Mulcahy played a long through ball from near midfield that Hoffman caught up to near the top of the box. A defender arrived just at the same time as her second touch on the ball, which popped up over the goalie and bounced into the goal. It was the third score of the season for Hoffman and second assist for Mulcahy.
The Raiders out-shot the Foresters 7-4 in both halves but senior goalkeeper
Franca Finch made a season-high five saves to secure the victory.
Lake Forest improved to 3-2-1 while MSOE fell to 4-3-0 on the season.
The Foresters will travel just north of the state line on Saturday to take on Carthage College at 5:00 p.m.
