The Lake Forest College men's golf team traveled just across the state line to Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, and placed fifth out of 17 teams at the Carthage Firebirds Fall Classic on Monday and Tuesday.
Senior
Luke Duffer led Lake Forest and tied for 11th in the 96-player field with a two-day total of 149 (+5). His 74 on Monday featured an eagle on the par-5 14th hole.
Playing as an individual, Forester freshman
Nate Choi also carded a 74 in round one and finished three shots behind Duffer and in a tie for 19th place overall.
Just one stroke behind Choi and tied-for-23rd in the field were sophomores
Tyler Schick and
Tyler Wengronowitz. Wengronowitz was the better of the two by a pair of shots with a 76 on Monday while Schick's 75 on Tuesday matched Duffer and junior
Ben Shamberg for the team's best round of the day. Shamberg's final tally of 156 put him in a tie for 36th overall.
Aurora University finished first in the team standing with a 36-hole score of 580 while runner-up Carthage was at 598. The Foresters were tied-for-seventh after posting a 307 in round one but climbed two spots in the standings on Tuesday, thanks to a 302.
The tournament was played at Hawk's View Golf Club in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin.
Lake Forest will return to Wisconsin this weekend for the WLC (Wisconsin Lutheran College) Fall Invitational. The event will be played on Saturday and Sunday at Washington County Golf Course in Hartford.
