The Lake Forest College men's golf team turned in the fourth-lowest two-day score in program history en route to a sixth-place finish at the Culver's Edgewood Fall Classic on Friday and Saturday.
The Foresters' day one total of 292 (+8) at the 22-team event is the sixth-best round in team annals.
Leading the way on Friday were junior
Ben Shamberg and sophomore
Tyler Wengronowitz, who were tied-for-first in the entire 118-player field at 69 (-2). They were just one stroke off the school record. Shamberg started his round with 10 consecutive pars before adding an eagle to a pair of birdies and two bogeys in the final eight holes. Wengronowitz had four birdies and two bogeys on the day.
Senior
Chris Petri led the team on Saturday with a 1-over 72. He had four birdies in the round and finished the tournament tied with Shamberg and Wengronowitz in 10th place at 145 (+3). That total also matches the program's sixth-best 36-hole score.
Lake Forest sophomore
Tyler Schick finished tied-for-43rd at 153, senior
Luke Duffer tied-for-54th at 155, and freshman
Nate Choi tied-for-64th at 157.
The University of Wisconsin-Stout was the team champion with a two-day total of 573. The Foresters' 594 was a stroke better than seventh-place St. Norbert College but two behind fifth-place University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. The event was played at Glen Erin Golf Course in Janesville, Wisconsin.
The Foresters will be in action again on Tuesday at the Aurora Double Gun, a one-day 36-hole tournament.
