Foresters Fall to Wheaton, MWC Schedule Next

The Lake Forest College men's tennis team was defeated 6-3 by Wheaton College at the Racquet Club of Lake Bluff Tuesday night.

The Foresters' first point of the night came at #3 doubles, where freshman Felipe Vazsonyi and sophomore Ian VIllardi Venturini Barbosa edged out their counterparts 8-7 (7-5).

Lake Forest sophomore George Ciuca took the first set 7-5 at #4 singles and was ahead early in the second when his opponent was forced to retire, tying the match at two.

Victories at #6, #5, and #2 secured the match for the Thunder and the teams split the final two matches on the court. Forester senior Oleksyi Vyshyvanyuk defeated Wheaton's top player 6-2, 6-1 while the visitors prevailed at #3 in a third set super tiebreaker.

Vyshyvanyuk's victory was the 132nd of his career in singles and doubles combined, tying him with John Adams (2010-13) for the most in program history.

The loss lowered Lake Forest's record on the season to 8-5 while Wheaton improved to 9-3.

The Foresters' next six opponents will be against fellow members of the Midwest Conference, beginning with Ripon College at home Saturday morning at 11:00.
