Foresters Earn Tiebreaker-Filled Win over Principia

The Lake Forest College men's tennis team defeated Principia College 7-2 Saturday night at River Trails Tennis Center in Arlington Heights, Illinois.

The Foresters swept the doubles competition, although their top tandem of senior Oleksyi Vyshyvanyuk and junior Daniel Tulchinskiy needed a 7-5 victory in the tiebreaker to finish off the sweep. Freshman Bernardo Aguiar and sophomore George Ciuca had already prevailed 8-3 at #2 and freshman Felipe Vazsonyi and junior Kyle Lassen by the same score at #4.

Ciuca was the first to finish in singles after rolling 6-0, 6-1 at #4. Three of the other five singles matches were decided by third set super tiebreakers and another by a complete third set. After the Panthers earned their first point of the night with  one of those super tiebreaker decisions at #4, Vyshyvanyuk finished off a 6-2, 6-7 (8-10), (10-5) triumph at #1 to clinch the match. Aguiar added a 6-2, 5-7, 6-3 victory at #2 and Lassen took the first set 6-1 and the second 6-0 at #6.

Vyshyvanyuk now has 131 career victories in singles and doubles combined, one fewer than school record-holder John Adams (2010-13).

The Foresters improved to 8-4 on the season while Principia fell to 6-6.

Lake Forest will host Wheaton College Tuesday night at 8:00 at the Racquet Club of Lake Bluff.
