The Lake Forest College men's tennis team was defeated 6-3 by Carthage College at the Racquet Club of Lake Bluff Saturday night.
Sophomore
George Ciuca contributed to two of the Foresters' team points. He and freshman
Bernardo Aguiar posted an 8-3 victory at #2 doubles but the Firebirds came out on top at the other two spots in the lineup.
Ciuca dropped the first set 6-2 at #4 singles but took the second 7-5. He won the first three points in the third set super tiebreaker but eventually had his lead trimmed to one at 7-6. He took the next three points, however, to win the match.
The Foresters' other point came from senior
Oleksyi Vyshyvanyuk. After falling in a tiebreaker at #1 doubles, he prevailed in tiebreaker fashion against Carthage's top singles player. Vyshyvanyuk took the first set 6-2 before falling 6-2 in the second. He won the first eight points before dropping the next seven in the ensuing super tiebreaker. The players traded points the rest of the way, giving Lake Forest's best his 60th career #1 singles victory.
Carthage improved to 13-3 while the Foresters fell to 7-4.
Lake Forest will host Principia College next Saturday at 5:00 p.m. The match will be played at River Trails Tennis Center in Arlington Heights, Illinois.
