Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Season-Opening Winning Streak Finally Ends at Carthage

The Forester men's lacrosse team was unable to post its sixth victory in as many games this season, falling 10-5 Wednesday night at Carthage College.

Lake Forest had the early lead after sophomore Ryan Dousevicz's fifth goal of the year just 75 seconds into the contest. Carthage, however, responded with four consecutive scores to close out the first quarter.

Junior John Casey's second score of the season made it a 4-2 game early in the second quarter but the Foresters were held scoreless for the rest of the period while the Firebirds struck twice and took a 6-2 lead into the locker room at halftime.

The home team added two more scores in the third to take what appeared to be a commanding 8-2 lead.

The Foresters, however, matched their scoring output from the first three quarters in the first two minutes of the fourth. Junior Chas Dean assisted sophomore Brendan Herbert's team-high-tying 15th goal of the spring just 14 seconds in and then scored himself with 13:06 remaining.

A Firebird tally with 6:12 left made a second straight six-goal comeback far more unlikely, although Dean's second of the night and sixth this season pulled the visitors back to within four with 4:45 on the clock. Herbert earned his second assist of the game on the play. Carthage closed out the scoring 76 seconds later and secured the victory.

Lake Forest is now 5-1 and Carthage 3-3 on the year.

The Foresters will host Augustana College Saturday afternoon at 1:00 on Farwell Field.
