14 Foresters Score in Rout of Augustana

The Lake Forest College men's lacrosse team hosted and defeated Augustana College 23-5 on Saturday.

Fourteen Foresters scored at least once in the contest beginning with freshman Carson Pagel less than three minutes into the contest. Junior Trip Gaston and sophomore Brant Schuckman added to the lead in the next three minutes and Pagel struck again with 4:12 to play in the first quarter. Junior Chas Dean closed out the scoring in the period, giving the home team a 5-0 lead.

Gaston accounted for two of Lake Forest's 10 goals in the second quarter. Dean also scored and was joined by freshmen Macklin Thomas and Tyler Dearmin, sophomores Dylan Alexander and Brendan Herbert, and juniors Connor Tartaglione, Will Kerber, and John Casey. The Foresters led 15-1 at halftime.

Schuckman and Dearmin netted their second goals of the day and sophomore Ryan Dousevicz and junior Caden Elias added their names in the scoring column in the third quarter, which ended with Lake Forest ahead 19-3.

Multi-goal games were secured by Casey, Tartaglione, and Alexander in the fourth and sophomore Gabe Boston closed out the scoring.

Tartaglione and Casey shared game-high honors with five ground balls apiece. Boston and graduate student Gordon Kiesgen IV each won two-thirds of their face-offs, combining to go 16-for-24.

Lake Forest junior goalie Andrew Widlar stopped eight of the Vikings' nine shots on goal in the first half and classmates John Niccoli and Kyle Joyce combined for six more saves in the final 30 minutes.

The victory raised the Foresters' record on the season to 6-1 while Augustana fell to 0-4.

Lake Forest will travel to Benedictine University on Wednesday for a 7:00 p.m. contest.
