The Lake Forest College women's basketball team turned in its best offensive output of the season Saturday afternoon in an 83-62 triumph over visiting Grinnell College.
Forester junior guard
Rebecca Christodoulou led all players in the game with 21 points. Four of her teammates also reached double figures with senior guards
Maurissa Edwards and
Melissa Gomez finishing with 13 and 12, respectively, and junior forward
Emmy Punches and sophomore forward
Chrystiana Pagonis adding 10 apiece.
Game highs also included eight rebounds from Gomez, four assists for Edwards, and three steals by Christodoulou.
Lake Forest 47.7 percent from the field while limiting the Pioneers to just 30.6. The Foresters also outscored their guests 21-12 from three-point range, out-rebounded them 38-36, and committed three fewer turnovers (21-24).
The home team took the lead for good just 19 seconds into the contest and scored the first eight points of the game. The margin grew to nine, shrunk back to one, and was at nine again at the end of the opening quarter (27-18). The Foresters started strong in the second as well with a 10- run and went into the locker room at halftime ahead 49-31.
Lake Forest's advantage ballooned to as man as 34 points in the third quarter but was eventually cut in half by the 4-minute mark of the fourth. The Pioneers got no closer, however, and the Foresters earned their fourth consecutive victory.
The recent run of success raised Lake Forest's overall record to 6-15 and Midwest Conference mark to 4-8. Grinnell fell to 12-9 overall and 7-6 in the league.
The Foresters will look to continue their winning streak at Lawrence University Tuesday night wit tip-off scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
