The Lake Forest College women's lacrosse team was defeated 26-3 at the University of Chicago Saturday afternoon in the season opener for both programs.
Chicago, the 19th-ranked team in the nation, had a 4-0 lead after just five minutes of play.
The Foresters' first goal of the season came from sophomore
Emma Sharp at the 9:40 mark of the opening quarter. There was a battle for the ball between several players in front of the Maroons' goal and she was able to push it past the goalie to make it a 4-1 game.
The home team, however, scored seven more times in the quarter and the only other Lake Forest goal in the period came from senior
Ali Graham with 5:27 on the clock. It was the Foresters' second score of the game with a Chicago player in the penalty box.
The Maroons added four unanswered goals in the second quarter and five in the third. Graham accounted for the first tally in the fourth on a free position shot but Chicago tacked on six more scores before the game ended.
Forester sophomore goalie
Cecilia Adams made a career-high 16 saves and led the visitors with six ground balls. Graham had a team-high three draw controls and was one of four players on the squad to cause a pair of turnovers.
Lake Forest will play on the road again next Saturday afternoon at 1:00 at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.
