The Lake Forest College men's tennis team edged out visiting Hope College 5-4 Friday night at the Racquet Club of Lake Bluff.
The Flying Dutchmen led 2-1 after doubles play with the Foresters' lone point coming from an 8-5 triumph by senior
Oleksyi Vyshyvanyuk and junior
Daniel Tulchinskiy at #1. It was the 59th career doubles victory for Vyshyvanyuk, leaving him alone in second place in program history in that category.
The top four spots in the singles lineup were the first to finish and Lake Forest came out on top in all four contests to secure the team win. Freshman
Bernardo Aguiar took both sets 6-4 at #2 and Vyshyvanyuk prevailed 6-3, 6-4 at #1. The next two went three sets with sophomore
George Ciuca defeating his counterpart at #4 singles 5-7, 6-2, 6-1 and Tulchinskiy edging out Hope's #3 player 6-4, 6-7 (1-7), 6-2 for the match clincher.
Hope earned the points at #5 and #6 singles to account for the final score.
Lake Forest improved to 4-1 on the season while Hope fell to 2-5.
The Foresters will be in action again next Saturday against the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. That match will also be played at the Racquet Club of Lake Bluff and will begin at 4:00 p.m.
