2/23/2024 6:20:00 PM

The Lake Forest College track team made the trip to Ripon College for this weekend's Midwest Conference Indoor Championship Meet. Friday was a record-setting day for several members of the team.

The Forester men's sprint medley relay team began the running event portion of the meet with a bang, setting the first of Lake Forest's seven school records on the day with a time of 3:38.68 and earning All-MWC honors with a third-place finish in the event. Freshman Shuntaro Nakamura led off, sophomore Mason Wright covered the second 200m, and junior Matthew Lungu moved his team up from fourth to second during his 400m leg. Freshman Ollie Francis slipped to third during the third lap of his 800m but sprinted back into second at the end, edging out three other runners by less than six-tenths of a second. The runner-up in the race came from the other heat.

It was the first all-conference performance in a relay event in the history of Forester men's track.

The women's sprint medley team made up of sophomores AJ Jones, Jacquelyn Han, and One Kenosi and senior Becca Ray also set a team record with their eighth-place time of 4:37.08.

School records also fell in the 60m hurdle prelims, where freshman Payton Ross turned in the fastest time out of the meet's 13 competitors at 8.54 seconds. On the women's side, Han qualified for Saturday's final as well thanks to her time of 10.38 seconds, which ranked seventh in the field.

Also qualifying for Saturday's final was Jones in the 60m. She became the first Forester woman to break eight seconds in the event, finishing in 7.88, and was the second-fastest of 22 runners in the event on Friday.

Also earning points for the Foresters on day one of competition were sophomore Michael Alade with a seventh-place leap of 6.33m (20'9.25") in the men's long jump and freshman Lettia Hoda with an eighth-place time of 5:29.45 in the women's mile.

The two-day meet will continue on Saturday with field events beginning at 10:30 a.m. and running events at noon.
