A 4-0 victory over visiting Cornell College on Saturday gave the Lake Forest College men's soccer team a 7-0-1 Midwest Conference record and secured the league record 19th title in program history.
The Foresters dominated the game, attempting 25 shots and earning eight corner kick opportunities while blanking the Rams in both categories.
The home team took the lead in the 32nd minute on the second score of the season for senior
Arsene Uwamba. Classmate
Eric Rodriguez doubled the lead with his second goal of the year at the 40:17 mark and Lake Forest still led 2-0 at halftime. Uwamba and Rodriguez were two of five Foresters honored before the Senior Day contest and accounted for half of the team's scoring in their final regular season home game.
Gustavo Machado also scored for the second time this fall at the 58:54 mark and fellow sophomore
Nathan Kostovetsky tacked on one more goal less than two minutes later. Junior
Gio Diaz set up the Foresters' first and last goals of the day and leads the team with six assists and 16 points this season. All six of the assists occurred during conference games and he tied for the league lead in that category.
Lake Forest sophomore goalkeeper
Andrew Swacha registered his fifth shutout of the season and 11th in his career. He led the league with a 0.68 goals against average, .828 save percentage, and four shutouts during conference play.
The victory raised the Foresters overall record on the season to 8-7-3 while Cornell fell to 4-12-1 overall and 2-5-1 in the MWC.
Lake Forest will host next weekend's four-team MWC Tournament and take on Grinnell College in the semifinals on Farwell Field at 11:00 a.m. The other semifinal will follow and the final will be played on Mohr Field at the same time on Saturday.
