After taking the opener 5-4, the Lake Forest College men's hockey team was doubled up 4-2 at Saint Mary's University in Saturday's weekend series finale.
The Foresters led 2-0 after the opening period, thanks to scores from junior forward
Colin Bella and senior forward
Justin Ross. Bella scored for the second day in a row at 8:24 and Ross did the same at 13:58 with freshman forward Trevor Foucher assisting.
The Cardinals answered the visitors' two-goal first period with four in the second. Even strength goals at 9:11 and 11:01 were followed by a power play tally at the 17:18 mark and a shorthanded score at 19:13.
Lake Forest out-shot the home team 13-6 in the final period and 34-18 on the day but were unable to come back and sweep the season-opening series.
The Foresters will begin Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play against Aurora University next weekend. The teams will face off in Lake Forest Friday night at 7:00 and in Geneva, Illinois, at the same time on Saturday.
