The Lake Forest College men's basketball team is playing at the Emmanuel Tip-Off Tournament in Boston, Massachusetts, this weekend and defeated the hosts 79-66 in Friday's semifinals.
Senior guard
Alex Knight led all players in the game ith 25 points and seven assists on the evening. He shot 12-for-17 from the field and added five rebounds to his final stat line.
Junior guard
Alex Forowycz was next on the team in scoring with 15 and the Foresters outscored the Saints by 25 points during his 25 minutes on the court. He connected on three of his four three-point field goal attempts, pulled down six rebounds, and chipped in ith two steals and two blocked shots.
Lake Forest sophomore wing
Coltrane Marchand also reached double figures with a dozen points and freshman forward
John Mayhew came off the bench to contribute eight points and seven boards.
The Foresters shot 58.2 percent from the field and knocked down six of 14 attempts from beyond the arc. They also out-rebounded the home team 46-26, helping to make up for their 26 turnovers.
Trailing 7-6 early on, Lake Forest outscored the Saints 21-3 over the next seven minutes to build up a 17-point lead. Emmanuel closed to within seven at 33-26 but the Foresters closed out the first half on an 8-4 run and led 41-30 at the break.
The Saints pulled to within six twice early in the second half but a 16-4 run by the Foresters increased the margin to 19 points and it eventually reached 20 with a little more than five minutes to play, Emmanuel cut the lead to 11 with two minutes to play but got no closer.
The victory was the first for
Matt Griggs since becoming the Foresters' head coach this season. Lake Forest is now 1-2 and Emmanuel 0-2 on the year.
The Foresters will take on Endicott College in the championship game of the tournament Saturday at 8:00 p.m. (ET).
