The Lake Forest College volleyball team was defeated in three sets at Cornell College Friday night in the first of two matches in Iowa this weekend.
The Foresters' offensive attack was led by sophomore
Meghan Winston, who finished with seven kills and just one error. Defensively, senior
Juli Barrientos had a team-high nine digs while Winston and freshman setter
Melania Mathieux added six apiece.
The Rams won the first eight points of the night and closed out the opening set with a 12-2 run. The home team also added 16 to its total during a 19-point stretch of set two. Cornell rattles off four straight points twice in the third and final set with the second such run closing out the contest.
The loss dropped the Foresters' overall record this season to 4-19 and Midwest Conference mark to 3-4. Cornell improved to 14-11 overall and remained undefeated in the league at 5-0.
Lake Forest will play its final conferense match of the year at Grinnell College Saturday afternoon at 1:00.
