The Lake Forest College volleyball team suffered its first Midwest Conference loss of the season on Saturday, a 27-29, 25-15, 26-24, 25-20 Homecoming defeat to visiting Monmouth College.

Melania Mathieux tallied a season-high 32 assists. On defense, senior libero
Juli Barrientos tallied a career-high-tying 20 digs and classmate
Riley Stapley four blocks.
The Foresters led the opening set by as many as five points but later trailed 18-17. They won the next six points to take a 23-18 lead but, once again, fell behind by one at 26-25. Lake Forest then used a 4-1 run to finish off the set.
The Fighting Scots took 11 of the first 14 points and maintained a lead of at least six points for the remained of set two.Â
The visitors also won the first six points of the third set but the Foresters quickly came back and took a 9-8 lead. The Lake Forest advantage eventually grew to four points at 22-18 but Monmouth rallied with six in a row. The Foresters fought off a pair of set point opportunities but not a third.
Set four was close throughout and Lake Forest closed to within one at 15-14 and two at 21-19 before the Scots won four of the next five points and the match.
The loss dropped the Foresters' overall record to 3-13 and MWC mark to 2-1. Monmouth improved to 12-8 overall and 2-0 in the league.
Lake Forest will play a non-conference match at Dominican University Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
