The Lake Forest College volleyball team won the first set but fell in four to Concordia University Chicago Tuesday evening.
The Foresters and Cougars went back and forth throughout an exciting opening set. There were nine ties and the lead changed hands four times in the set, the last as part of a three-point run by the home team that closed it out. A kill by senior
Rebekkah De Kok tied the score at 23 and, after Lake Forest took the lead, her ace finished it off.
Concordia Chicago used a 14-2 run to pull aay in the second set and took it 25-12. A 9-1 run in set three served the same purpose and the visitors won it 25-17. Just once in the fourth and final set did the Foresters win consecutive points and the visitors came out on top 25-11.
De Kok led Lake Forest with eight kills and three aces and freshman setter
Melania Mathieux tallied 23 assists. Defensively, senior Juli Marrientos finished with seven digs and classmate
Riley Stapley with a pair of blocks.
The Foresters are now 4-15 on the season while Concordia Chicago improved to 9-10.
Lake Forest will resume Midwest Conference play next Tuesday night at Lawrence University with a start time of 7:00.
