The Forester women's basketball team trimmed a 19-point deficit to six but were unable to complete the comeback against Illinois College at home on Sunday, falling 65-52.
The Lady Blues led 39-20 with 2:21 to play in the second quarter and 42-27 at halftime. Lake Forest outscored the visitors 11-4 in the third quarter and a pair of free throws by senior guard
Maurissa Edwards made it a six-point game with 8:55 to play. The margin grew to 11 but as back down to seven after junior guard
Rebecca Christodoulou connected twice from the line at the 4:33 mark. Illinois College, however, outscored the Foresters 9-3 the rest of the way to secure the victory.
Edwards led the home team with 16 points and Christodoulou was next with eight. Sophomore forward
Rylie Crecelius pulled down a team-high six rebounds and freshman guard
Careah Baitlon dished out four assists.
Lake Forest shot 32.6 from the field while the Lady Blues were just slightly better at 35.3 percent. The Foresters out-rebounded their guests 37-32 but committed 26 turnovers while forcing 17.
The Foresters are now 2-13 overall this season and 1-6 in Midwest Conference play. Illinois College improved to 9-8 overall and evened its league record at 4-4.
Lake Forest will play at Beloit College Wednesday night with tip-off scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
