In a game that was scoreless after two periods, the Lake Forest College men's hockey team defeated host Marian University 4-3 Sunday evening.
The Foresters finally scored the game's first goal at the 3:31 mark of the final period. It was the eighth of the season for senior forward
Tyler Nielsen.
The next three goals also came from the Foresters and each was produce by the forward line of junior Girffen Sanom and sophomores
Logan Kittleson and
Chase Freiermuth. Sanom struck for the seventh time this year just 70 seconds after Nielsen's goal. Kittleson added what proved to be crucial insurance goals at 7:37 and 12:56 for his first career multi-goal performance. He now has five scores on the season.
Freiermuth assisted on all three of the line's tallies and Sanom also set up Kittleson's first score.
Marian battled back late in the contest, scoring with 1:49 to play and adding two more scores with an extra attacker in the final minute. The Foresters
Lake Forest junior goaltender Bobby McClockey finished with 33 saves to earn in the victory.
The Foresters improved to 6-11-0 overall while Marian fell to 7-10-0. Both teams are 3-7-0 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play, although Lake Forest is sixth in the league standings with 13 points and the Sabres eighth with eight.
Lake Forest will travel to Adrian College next weekend and take on the top team in the league Friday night at 7:00 (ET) and Saturday afternoon at 4:00 (ET).
