Box Score The first Forester Athletes of the Week of the 2023-24 academic year were announced on Tuesday, and senior Grace Franz of volleyball and sophomore Ben Shamberg of men's golf earned the honors.
Over the weekend, Franz racked up 33 kills and posted a .338 hitting percentage as Lake Forest posted victories over DePauw University, Fontbonne University, and Wisconsin Lutheran College. Her best performance came Friday night when her career-high 17th kill of the contest broke a 13-13 tie in set five against DePauw. She then served up an ace to secure the Forester victory. Franz also had eight digs and a career-high four blocks in the same contest.
Shamberg shot a 2-over-73 in the first round the Culver's Edgewood College Fall Classic and followed that showing with a program record tying 3 under par 68 on day two. His two-day total of 141 was good enough for second place out of 100 golfers, and he also led the team to a 36-hole score of 586, besting the previous school record set last spring by 14 strokes. The Foresters finished second out of 19 teams in the tournament.
This is the first time either athlete has been named Forester Athlete of the Week.
Forester Athletes of the Week are selected by a vote of athletic department staff on Tuesdays. This is the first time either athlete has been awarded the distinction.
