Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Comeback Victory for Foresters at Rockford

The Lake Forest College volleyball team dropped the first two sets but won the next three and the match Tuesday night at Rockford University.

In addition to dropping the first two sets 25-22 and 25-18, the Foresters trailed 10-5 in set three before coming back and taking it 25-22. Seniors Grace Franz and Holland Smits combined for 13 kills in the set.

The visitors led by as many as seven in the fourth set but the margin shrunk to two several times, the last at 23-21. Back-to-back kills by junior Riley Stapley, who had five in the set, finished it off.

Lake Forest was nursing a 6-5 lead before winning six of the next seven points in the final set. The Foresters' final three points came on kills by Franz, who finished the night with 15. She also tallied 16 digs for her third double-double of the season and fifth in her two teams on the team.

Smits pounded out a match-high 21 kills, posted a .333 hitting percentage, and added a dozen digs for her first career double-double. She shattered her previous career-highs of 11 kills and five digs. Stapley's 10 kills were also a career best total.

Sophomore Julia Turskey led Lake Forest with 17 digs and the team's setters, sophomore Lilly Robinson and junior Juli Barrientos, tallied 28 and 20 assists, respectively, and combined for 20 digs. Robinson also served up three of the Foresters' five aces.

Lake Forest's third five-set triumph of the season raised the team's overall record to 7-4 while Rockford fell to 4-6.

The Foresters will begin Midwest Conference play on the road this weekend, playing at Knox College Friday night at 7:00 and Monmouth College at 1:00 Saturday afternoon.
