On the strength of 21 aces, the second-highest total in school history, the Lake Forest College volleyball team won 25-14, 23-25, 25-12, 25-15 at Knox College Friday night in the Midwest Conference opener for both programs.
Senior
Grace Franz accounted for a career-high seven of the visitors' aces, matching the second-highest four-set mark in team annals. ith 13 kills and 10 digs, she also posted her second consecutive double-double and fourth this season.
Fellow senior
Mary Gegen reached double figures in both categories for the fifth time in 2023 and 21st time in her career, finishing with 11 kills and 14 digs. Junior
Rebekkah De Kok also racked up 11 kills while sophomore
Julia Turskey led all players in the match with 21 digs, 10 more than her previous career-high.
Junior setter
Juli Barrientos and classmate Riley Turskey added to the Foresters' ace total with four apiece. Barrientos also had a match-high 21 assists while sophomore
Lilly Robinson added 17.
Lake Forest's record for aces is 23 and was set in October of 1996 in a four-set victory over Ripon College.
Friday night's victory raised the Foresters' overall record to 8-4 while Knox remained winless after 10 contests.
Lake Forest will continue league play at Monmouth College Saturday afternoon at 1:00.
