The Forester volleyball team dropped the first set but took the next three to earn a victory at Monmouth College on Saturday.
Lake Forest senior
Mary Gegen led all players in the contest with a career-high 24 kills, matching the second-highest four-set total in team history. She also posted an efficient .468 hitting percentage and added three blocks and nine digs on the day.
Fellow senior
Grace Franz registered her third double-double in the last five days, pounding out 11 kills and sharing match-high honors with junior Laruen Volk with 14 digs. Junior
Riley Stapley also reached double figures in kills with 13, surpassing her previous career-high of 10 set Tuesday night.
Sophomore setter
Lilly Robinson tied one career-high with five aces while missing another by just one with 32 assists. Both totals led all players in the contest.
The home team led by as many as six points in the first set but Lake Forest eventually came back to tie the score at 21. Monmouth won four of the next si points to take it 25-23.
The final score was reversed in set two. The Foresters trailed 23-21 before a kill by Franz and two by Gegen helped them close it out.
Lake Forest was behind 15-14 before winning eight of the next 12 points in set three. The Fighting Scots closed to within 24-22 before a kill by Franz finished it off.
The Foresters pulled away with a 10-2 run early n the fourth set and rattled off seven straight points later on to put it out of reach. Gegen recorded back-to-back kills to secure the 25-15 victory in the set and 3-1 decision in the match.
The victory was Lake Forest's second in as many Midwest Conference matches and raised the team's overall record to 9-4. Monmouth fell to 7-9 overall and 1-1 in the league.
The Foresters will host a non-conference match against Alverno College Tuesday night at 7:00.
