Sweep of Alverno is Foresters' 10th Victory of the Season

The Lake Forest College volleyball team hosted and defeated Alverno College 25-18, 25-10, 25-17 Tuesday night.

The Foresters posted a .306 hitting percentage on the evening, surpassing .300 for the second consecutive match. Junior Riley Stapley and senior Holland Smits led the way in that category, combining for 17 kills without an attack error in 27 attempts.

Senior Grace Franz led the home team with 16 kills and hit .484. She also served up a pair of aces and had 14 digs for her fourth straight double-double.

Half of Lake Forest's 10 aces in the match came from sophomore setter Lilly Robinson, who also had a team-high 21 assists while junior setter Juli Barrientos added 17. 

Senior Mary Gegen led the Foresters with 16 digs while freshman libero Lexi Pena finished with 10 in her first career start.

Lake Forest was nursing a 17-16 lead in set one before taking eight of the next 10 points. A kill by Riley Stapley finished it off.

Set two was the Foresters' from start to finish. They won the first four points and had three more runs of at least four in the set. The last was five in a row with the final two coming on kills by Gegen.

Alverno actually led 17-16 in the third set but did not win another point. Franz had three kills during the run, which ended with an ace by Robinson.

The Forester improved to 10-4 on the season while Alveno fell to 1-12.

Lake Forest will be in action again Friday night against visiting Marian University. The Homecoming match will begin at 7:00 p.m.
