Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Exciting Action in Forester Win Over Grinnell

In a rematch of the 2022 Midwest Conference Tournament Final, Lake Forest men's soccer came away with a big 4-3 win over Grinnell College. Junior Arsene Uwamba had two goals in the first seven minutes of regulation in what was a very back-and-forth game.

Uwamba put the Foresters up 1-0 early with just 3:45 showing on the clock. Junior Ifet Mrkalj brought the ball down the field to Uwamba, who passed it out to sophomore Karl Weisenfeld. Weisenfeld passed it right back to Uwamba, who continued his forward movement right in front of the net for an easy goal. He'd score again just over three minutes later when senior Elliot Hull threw the ball into play from the sidelines, right to Uwamba, who kicked it in pass a Grinnell defender.

With the game tied 2-2 at halftime, the Pioneers went ahead with a goal three and a half minutes into the second half. Junior Ifet Mrkalj evened the score less than 10 minutes later, and freshman Peter Cirbo was able to pull the Foresters to the win with a goal in the 72nd minute. Cirbo's goal began when sophomore Brett Kelmes threw the ball into play to freshman Nathan Kostovesky. Kostovesky charged down the field towards the Pioneer goal; as he passed the ball to Cirbo, the Grinnell goalkeeper came far out into the box, leaving an open net and an easy path for Cirbo to put the ball in the goal for what would be the game-winner.

Lake Forest out-shot their opponents 12-11 and had seven shots on goal.

The Foresters are now 3-6 on the season and play next at Ripon College on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
