The Lake Forest College women's basketball team is competing in the Amy Hasbrook Memorial Tournament at DePauw University this weekend and was defeated 96-64 by Franklin College in Friday's semifinals.
Franklin started fast, connecting on five three pointers in the first quarter and leading 32-17 after 10 minutes of play. The margin continued to grow in the second and the Foresters went into the locker room at halftime trailing 57-28. The second half was nearly even with the Grizzlies outscoring Lake Forest 39-36 during the final two periods.
Senior guard
Maurissa Edwards led the Foresters with a season-high 17 points. Freshman guardÂ
Careah Baitlon was next on the team with seven points and led the squad with four assists. Sophomore forwardÂ
Rylie Crecelius was Lake Forest's leading rebounder with seven.
The Grizzlies shot 38.2 percent from the field while the Foresters were at just 29.7 percent. Franking outscored Lake Forest 24-18 on three-pointers and 36-20 from the foul line while holding a commanding 58-36 edge on the boards.
The loss dropped the Foresters' overall record on the season to 1-9 while Franklin improved to 8-2.
Lake Forest will take on Lakeland University in Saturday's tournament consolation game at 2:00 p.m. (ET).
