The Lake Forest College women's basketball team lost a closely contested contest to Cornell College on Saturday, ultimately falling 57-47.
Â
The Foresters trailed the Rams by just two points after a pair of free throws from senior guard
Maurissa Edwards with just under three minutes to play, but clutch shooting from the visitors down the stretch sealed the victory.
Â
In addition to Edwards' nine points, the Foresters were paced in scoring by junior guard
Taylor Major with 10.
Â
Senior guard
Melissa Gomez chipped in six points on the afternoon, and 5'2" freshman guard
Careah Baitlon led all players in the game with nine rebounds.
Â
Lake Forest shot 30.2 percent from the field, and although the Foresters forced Cornell into 17 turnovers, they turned the ball over 27 times themselves.
Â
With the loss, Lake Forest falls to 1-7 overall and 1-2 in Midwest Conference play this season. Cornell improved to 3-4 overall and 2-0 in the league.
The Foresters will have just three more contests this calendar year, as they travel to University of Wisconsin-Platteville next Wednesday night before finishing out 2023 at DePauw University's Amy Hasbrook Memorial Tournament on December 29 and 30.
