Foresters Fall after Late Cornell Flurry

The Lake Forest College women's basketball team lost a closely contested contest to Cornell College on Saturday, ultimately falling 57-47.

The Foresters trailed the Rams by just two points after a pair of free throws from senior guard Maurissa Edwards with just under three minutes to play, but clutch shooting from the visitors down the stretch sealed the victory.

In addition to Edwards' nine points, the Foresters were paced in scoring by junior guard Taylor Major with 10.

Senior guard Melissa Gomez chipped in six points on the afternoon, and 5'2" freshman guard Careah Baitlon led all players in the game with nine rebounds.

Lake Forest shot 30.2 percent from the field, and although the Foresters forced Cornell into 17 turnovers, they turned the ball over 27 times themselves.

With the loss, Lake Forest falls to 1-7 overall and 1-2 in Midwest Conference play this season. Cornell improved to 3-4 overall and 2-0 in the league.

The Foresters will have just three more contests this calendar year, as they travel to University of Wisconsin-Platteville next Wednesday night before finishing out 2023 at DePauw University's  Amy Hasbrook Memorial Tournament on December 29 and 30.
