A goal by sophomore forward
Colin Bella with just 1:34 remaining gave the Lake Forest College men's hockey team a 3-2 victory at Lawrence Saturday night.
The play started with
Tyler Buonopane getting control of the puck along the boards behind the Lawrence goal and send it back to fellow junior forward
Jared Gerger in the left circle. Gerger centered it to Bella who, while spinning, fired a shot over the goaltenders glove for his second score of the night.
Both teams took the lead and lost it earlier in the contest.
The scored first at the 5:40 mark of the second period but Lake Forest tied the game just 28 seconds later on the second goal of the season for junior defenseman
Ryan Antonakis. Sophomore forward
Chase Freiermuth assisted on the goal and is now tied for the team lead in points with 11.
Buonopane set up Bella's first score of the night at 2:05 in the third and the visitors led 2-1 until Lawrence converted a power play opportunity at 11:08.
The home team had a 37-20 advantage in shots on goal but Forester junior goaltender
Kohl Reddy made a career-high 35 saves to finish off the weekend sweep of the Vikings.
Lake Forest improved to 4-6-0 overall this season and 2-4-0 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play. The Foresters jumped from ninth to sixth in the league standings, surpassing the Vikings, who are now 3-8-1 overall and 2-5-1 in the NCHA.
Lake Forest will close out the fall semester with a non-conference game at Aurora University next Tuesday night at 7:30.
