Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Foresters Start Fast, Finish Strong against Cornell

The Lake Forest College men's basketball team hosted and defeated Cornell College 63-59 Saturday afternoon.

The home team jumped out to a 25-8 lead nine minutes in the game's first nine minutes and led by 19 before a basket by the Rams made the halftime score 38-21.

Cornell battled back in the second half and tied the score at 53 with three-and-a-half minutes to play. Junior guard Alex Knight, who led Lake Forest with 20 points, scored on the team's next three possessions but the lead was just two with a minute to play. Junior forward Michael Michaud doubled the advantage by knocking down a pair of free throws with 56.5 seconds left and, after a basket from the Rams with 39.8 seconds on the clock, grabbed an offensive rebound in the final 10 seconds, forcing the visitors to foul again. Sophomore wing Alex Forowycz made them both to account for the final score.

The Foresters shot 42 percent from the field while Cornell was slightly better at 44 percent. Both teams connected five times from three-point range. Lake Forest outscored the Rams 8-4 from the foul line and had a 37-28 advantage on the boards.

With 13 points and a game-high 12 rebounds, Michaud turned in his third double-double in the last four games and fourth this season. Knight finished a rebound shy of a double-double of his own and Forowycz added 11 points. Junior guard Elijah Bull scored eight and recorded four steals.

The Foresters are now 3-5 overall this season and 1-2 in Midwest Conference play. Cornell fell to 2-6 overall and 0-2 in the league.

Lake Forest will close out the fall semester at home next Wednesday evening against Kalamazoo College. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
