The Lake Forest College men's soccer team posted its second 2-0 victory in as many days on Saturday, defeating Grinnell College in the 2023 Midwest Conference Tournament Final at Illinois College.
The game was scoreless until the 64th minute when a shot from the right of the goal by senior
Muhamed Prijic caromed off the goalkeeper and a Pioneer defender before going into the goal. It was the second score of the season for Prijic.
The second goal came just five minutes later. The Foresters worked the ball into the penalty box, where a crossing attempt was deflected away by a Grinnell defender. Sophomore Brett Klemed settled it off his chest and fired a shot off the goalkeeper's hands and just inside the right post for his first career score.
Lake Forest was out-shot 15-12 in the game but just one of the Pioneers' attempts was on target. Forester freshman goalkeeper
Andrew Swacha stopped that one and earned his third consecutive shutout and sixth this season, which ranks tied-for-fifth in team history.
The Foresters improved to 7-8-4 while Grinnell's season ends at 9-6-5.
Along with the tournament title comes the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament. Lake Forest has now qualified for the national event for the second year in a row and eighth time in program history. A selection show announcing the tournament field and game locations will air on
NCAA.com Monday afternoon at 1:00.
