The Forester men's soccer team defeated Cornell College 2-0 on Friday in the semifinals of the Midwest Conference Tournament.
The game was scoreless until senior
Elliot Hull struck in the 51st minute. A clearing attempt from the Rams was settled by Hull and his shot from 40 yards out went into the top-left corner of the goal, just above the hands of a leaping goalkeeper.
The next score also came on an extremely precise shot. A Forester give-and-go up the right sideline advanced the ball nearly to the corner. It was played bback to freshman
Gustavo Machado, who dribbled across the top the box to set up his shot that stayed down and snuck just inside the right post.
Hull's goal was his third of the season and Muchado now leads the team with four. In addition to scoring his fourth career game-winning goal, Hull was presented with the MWC Elite 20 Award before the contest for possessing the highest cumulative grade point average of any player at the tournament.
Lake Forest freshman goalkeeper
Andrew Swacha, who also blanked Cornell on the road last Saturday, earned his fifth shutout of the season, matching the sixth-highest total in team history.
The victory improved the Foresters' record on the season to 6-8-4 while Cornell finished the 2023 campaign at 6-8-5.
Lake Forest will take on either Grinnell College or conference champion and tournament host Illinois College in the final Saturday afternoon at 2:00.
