Lake Forest Drops MWC Opener at Grinnell

The Forester men's basketball team turned in its highest scoring output in more than two decades but was defeated 148-123 at Grinnell College in Saturday's Midwest Conference opener for both teams.

Lake Forest sophomore guard Luke Arington shot 7-for-13 from three-point range and scored a game-high 28 points. He entered his first career start with a dozen points in six appearances as a Forester.

Junior guard Alex Knight, freshman wing Coltrane Marchand, and junior forward Michael Michaud added 27, 20, and 19 points, respectively. Knight leads the team with 22.8 points per game on the season. Marchand shot 9-for-13 from the field and matched his season-high point total. MIchaud made all eight of his field goal attempts on Saturday and is now shooting 82.4 percent on the year. He also grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds for his third double-double of the season.

The Foresters shot 57.9 percent from the floor but the Pioneers were even better at 59.3 percent. Grinnell also connected on 25 of 52 attempts from beyond the arc while Lake Forest was just 8-for-25. The visitors had a 43-36 edge in rebounds but accounted for 27 of the game's 45 turnovers.

The game was tied at 30 before an 18-4 run by the Pioneers gave them the lead for good. Already trailing 75-60 at halftime, the Foresters never got any closer than 11 points the rest of the way.

The point total is the third-highest in school history for the Foresters and their 63 points in the game's final 20 minutes matched the program's seventh-highest output for a half.

Lake Forest is now 2-4 and Grinnell 5-1 on the year.

The Foresters will continue league play at home against Monmouth College Tuesday evening at 5:30.
