Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Foresters Roll at Cornell, Clinch Conference Title

The Lake Forest College women's soccer team prevailed 7-0 at Cornell College on Saturday to finish the regular season atop the Midwest Conference standings.

The league title is the Foresters' first since 2015 and seventh in program history. They posted a 7-0-1 record in league play to finish two points ahead of second-place Grinnell College (6-0-2).

Senior Ella Manthey started the scoring at the 20:42 mark on Saturday with her third goal of the season. Sophomore Caitlin Mulcahy added scores in the 32nd and 35th minutes to raise her season total to seven and make the score 3-0 at halftime. Sophomore Izzy DeStefano assisted on two of the three tallies and leads the team with a dozen goals and eight assists on the year.

Anna Hoffman, another sophomore, accounted for the first two scores of the second half to join Mulcahy at seven on the season. She also helped set up the second of the fall for sophomore Lauren Covarrubias at the 68:30 mark.

Junior Theresa Presberg, whose corner kicks set up both of Hoffman's goals, added one of her own with 11 minutes to play to close out the scoring. She has now struck three times this season.

The Foresters outshot their hosts 36-3 in the contest and junior goalkeeper Franca Finch needed to make just two saves to earn her sixth shutout of the year and match the fourth-highest mark in program history.

Lake Forest improved to 9-3-5 overall while Cornell finished the season 1-10-3 overall and 1-7-0 in the league.

The Foresters will host next weekend's four-team MWC Tournament and take on fourth-place Beloit College in the semifinals on Friday. The other semifinal will feature Grinnell and Lawrence University with the winners meeting in Saturday afternoon's tournament final.
