The Lake Forest College women's soccer team is hosting this weekend's Midwest Conference Tournament and blanked Beloit College 2-0 in Friday's first semifinal.
The Foresters took the lead at 17:07 on the team-high 13th goal of the season by sophomore
Izzy DeStefano. She took a lead pass up the right side of the field from classmate
Anna Hoffman and slipped a shot past the Buccaneer goalkeeper and into the right side of the goal.
It remained a 1-0 game until the 56:10 mark when DeStefano's corner kick from the right side was headed in by sophomore
Caitlin Mulcahy in front of the near post. It was the eighth score of the season for Mulcahy.
The Forester defense was sturdy throughout the contest, allowing Beloit just two shots on goal, one headed away by freshman defender
Lola Halsband with 15 minutes to play in the first half and the other saved by junior goalkeeper
Franca Finch in the 89th minute.
Finch earned her seventh and the team's eighth shutout of the year. Just two goalies in program history have held more opponents scoreless in a season.
Lake Forest improved to 10-3-5 while Beloit finished its 2023 campaign at 5-9-5.
The Foresters will host either Grinnell College or Lawrence University in the tournament final Saturday afternoon at 2:00. The winner will earn the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament.
