Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Early Goal Sets Tone for Foresters Win over Lady Blues

Junior Greta Gerard put Lake Forest women's soccer in the lead in the fourth minute of play in the team's game against Illinois College on Saturday. The Foresters never dropped their lead and beat the Lady Blues 3-0.

Gerard's goal was the only score of the first half and was assisted by sophomore Anna Hoffman. Senior Ella Manthey added an insurance goal at the 50:26. Sophomore Izzy DeStefano brought the ball down the field, made a quick pass to Manthey, who had to spin away from a defender before sending the ball sailing into the net above the leaping Illinois goalkeeper.

Junior Rosalie Wisniewski also added a goal to the Foresters' tally with another assist to Hoffman.

The teams were unevenly matched on the stats sheet. The Foresters out-shot the Lady Blues 23-3 and took 10 corner kicks to Illinois College's one.

Lake Forest now sits alone at the top of the standings in the Midwest Conference. With a win next Saturday at Cornell College, the Foresters would secure the league title and home-field advantage for the MWC Tournament. They travel to Mount Vernon, Iowa, next Saturday.
