Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Lake Forest Starts Fast, Routs Beloit

The Forester women's soccer team scored four times in the first 30 minutes and defeated visiting Beloit College 5-0 on Wednesday.

The offensive outburst began with sophomore Anna Gracia's fifth goal of the year. The assist went to classmate Izzy DeStefano, whose shot got past a diving goalkeeper but caromed straight down off the crossbar. Gracia reached the bouncing ball on the goal line before the keeper and gave the home team the lead less than nine minutes into the contest.

DeStefano scored the first of her two goals on the day less than three minutes later, catching up to a perfectly placed and paced thru ball from sophomore Caitlin Mulcahy at the top of the box and firing a shot into the left side of the net.

Gracia set up sophomore Anna Hoffman on the Foresters' third goal. Hoffman played a long diagonal pass to left side of the field, where Gracia retrieved it as the Buccaneer defense retreated. Hoffman continued her way up the field and Gracia's pass reached her in stride behind the defense and in front of the goalie at the 26:54 mark.

A foul in the box set up another Forester scoring opportunity just 78 seconds later and DeStefano's penalty shot went high into the net for her team-high 12th score of the season.

The Buccaneers had a penalty shot opportunity of their own in the 62nd minute but Lake Forest junior goalkeeper Franca Finch made her only save of the game to preserve her fourth shutout of the year.

The final goal of the contest was the fifth of the fall for Hoffman, who headed in a corner kick from junior Theresa Presberg with 57 seconds on the clock.

The Foresters finished the contest with an 18-4 advantage in shots.

Lake Forest is now 7-3-5 overall and atop the Midwest Conference standings with a 5-0-1 record in league play. Beloit fell to 4-8-3 overall and 3-1-2 in the conference.

Illinois College will be the Foresters' opponent in their final regular season home game of 2023. It will be Senior Day for Ashley Birnesser, Ella Manthey, and Alessandra Nepa.
