Forester women's tennis players are still in contention for titles at all nine positions in the lineup after day one of the Midwest Conference Individual Tournament on Saturday.
Freshmen
Sofia Strupovets and
Kristen Ahn were the top seeds at #1 and #3 singles, respectively, and had a bye in the quarterfinal round. Strupovets dropped the first set 6-0 but took the second and third by the same score while Ahn prevailed 6-2, 6-0 to reach the final.
The other four Foresters were seeded second and posted convincing victories as well, including 6-0, 6-1 and 6-0, 6-2 triumphs by senior
Margaret Bugnacki at #2 singles. Junior
Sara Lopez rolled 6-0, 6-2 in the quarterfinals and 6-4, 6-1 in the semis. Freshman
Kate Feist and sophomore
Rebecca Daskal were dominant at #5 and #6, respectively, where they combined to drop just one game in four matches.
All three Lake Forest doubles teams were seeded second and blanked their opponents 8-0 in the quarterfinals. Strupovets and Bugnacki played at #1, Ahn and Lopez at #2, and Feist and Daskal at #3.
The tournament will conclude on Sunday with the singles finals and final two rounds of doubles.
