Dubuque Hands Foresters First MLC Loss

Box Score

The Lake Forest College men's lacrosse team was defeated 16-4 by visiting University of Dubuque on Saturday.

It was the Foresters' first game on Mohr Field after playing their first three home games on Farwell Field.

The contest started well for the home team with freshman Jack Langworthy netting his seventh score of the season mid-way throughout the opening period. The Lake Forest lead was extremely short-lived, however, as the Spartans tied the game just four seconds later.

The Foresters regained the lead just 35 seconds later when sophomore John Casey extended his season-opening goal streak to nine games. Casey was assisted by freshman Luke Bowers and they lead the team with 21 goals and 9 assists, respectively, this year.

Dubuque drew even again with 2:54 on the clock and the quarter ended with the team's knotted at two.

The visitors took control of the game in the second period, scoring four times before Lake Forest could come up with an answer. Freshman Trip Gaston ended the run at the 2:36 mark with his 12th goal of the year. Langworthy earned an assist on the play and the Foresters trailed 6-3 at halftime.

Assisted by Casey, junior Bobby Ojascastro's second goal of 2022 made it a 6-4 game early in the third period.

Unfortunately for the Foresters, they did not score again and the Spartans struck five times in each of the final two periods to run away with the victory.

Dubuque won 18 of 21 faceoffs and had a 54-33 edge in ground balls in the contest.

Freshman Andrew Eisenman and Jack Osborn led Lake Forest with five ground balls and three caused turnovers on the day.

The Foresters is now 3-6 overall and 1-1 in Midwest Lacrosse Conference play while Dubuque evens its overall record at 6-6 and improved to 2-0 in the league.

Lake Forest will host another MLC game against Monmouth College Wednesday at 5:00 p.m.
