Foresters Post 5-1 Victory at Lawrence

Freshman forward David Cohen scored a pair of power play goals in the second period and Lake Forest rolled to a 5-1 victory at Lawrence University Friday night.

Cohen now has a team-high seven goals on the year, including four in the last three games.

Lake Forest accounted for the first five scores of the night, beginning with the second of the season by freshman forward Drew Shields at the 10:48 mark of the opening period. He was assisted by junior defenseman Mark DerManulian and forward Kyler Magus. Sophomore forward Kyle Cote netted the official game-winner at 13:05 and junior forward Joey Sardina made it a 3-0 game with 2:36 remaining in the period. Senior forward Tyler O'Neill set up Cote's second of the year and Magus assisted on Sardina's third.

Cote and DerManulian earned assists on Cohen's first tally at the midpoint of the period and his score with 58 seconds left was set up by Sardina and sophomore forward Cullen Kane.

The Vikings converted a power play opportunity at the 8:11 mark of the third to avoid the shutout.

The home team had a 29-27 advantage in shots on the night, but Forester junior Boyd DiClemente made 28 saves to improve to 8-1-1 with a .929n save percentage and 2.06 goals against average on the season.

Lake Forest is now 8-2-1 overall and 5-1-0 in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association while Lawrence fell to 3-7-1 overall and 2-4-1 in the league. The same two teams will face off in Lake Forest Saturday night at 7:00.
