Foresters Score Seven Goals in Victory at Lawrence

Box Score

Junior John Cappuccitti scored a pair of goals, including the official game-winner, and added four assists to help lead the Lake Forest College men's soccer team to a 7-2 victory at Lawrence University on Saturday.

Cappuccitti started the scoring just two-and-a-half minutes into the contest with junior Elyas Ingram assisting. Cappuccitti then picked up his first assist of the contest on a score by senior Ellis Rutili at 11:42.

Lawrence got on the scoreboard in the 22nd minute but the Foresters regained their two-goal advantage on Cappuccitti's second score of the contest and team-high fifth of the season a little more than 10 minutes later.

Cappuccitti recorded assists on junior transfer Osvaldo Lara Soria's first goal as a Forester at 38:08 and his second just three minutes later. Fellow junior transfer George Moushi also assisted on Lara Soria's first score and Ingram in the second, which made the score 5-1 at halftime.

The fourth assist of the contest for Cappuccitti and third for Ingram came on sophomore Gaston Aubert's fourth score of the year at 58:04. The program record of five assists was set by Humphrey Mosenge in 1974 and Cappuccitti is second in team annals with four. Ingram is one of four Foresters with three. Cappuccitti's eight points on the night tied the fourth-highest single-game total in school history and are the most by a Lake Forest player since Greg Shelby also had eight against Lawrence in 1992.

Rutili matched Aubert with his fourth score of the season with just eight minutes remaining in the game. Junior Casey Nham assisted on the goal for his first career point.

The Vikings converted on a penalty kick opportunity with exactly a minute on the clock to close out the scoring.

Lake Forest out-shot Lawrence 21-9 on the evening.

The victory went to Forester sophomore goalkeeper Tero Elias, who recorded one save while playing the first half. Classmate Elvin Husetovic made a pair of saves in the final 45 minutes.

Lake Forest improved to 6-5-0 overall this season and remained perfect in Midwest Conference play with a league record of 4-0-0. Lawrence fell to 3-7-0 overall and 1-3-0 in the conference.

The Foresters are tied for first place in the MWC standings with St. Norbert College and will host the Green Knights Wednesday afternoon at 4:00.
