Foresters Fall to Luther in MWC Semifinals

Lake Forest men's soccer ended its season with a 3-0 loss to Luther in the Midwest Conference semifinals.

The hosts dominated from the opening moments of the game, forcing the Foresters into a defensive shape. The pressure paid off for the Norse as the MWC regular season champions scored in the 21st minute. Lake Forest had its first shot of the match in the 28th minute as Jonas Antolik fired from 35 yards out. The Foresters were held to just two shots in the first half, the second coming from Eli Drake. Luther went into halftime with a 1-0 lead.

Lake Forest had the run of play coming out of the break, with Ollie Francis firing a shot on goal that the Luther goalkeeper stopped. The hosts then took a 2-0 lead in the 59th minute with a curling effort from outside the box.

The Foresters increased the pressure on offense again, as Gustavo Machado and Nathan Kostovetsky missed chances before the 70th minute. Luther took a 3-0 lead in the 84th minute with another shot from distance, as the Norse kept that lead to advance to the MWC final.

The Foresters finished the season with a record of 8-8-3, graduating six seniors who combined for more than 16,500 minutes played in their careers. They combined for 46 goals, 21 assists, 116 saves and 11 shutouts over the last four seasons. The group went 24-4-6 in Midwest Conference play with a pair of league titles and three NCAA Tournament appearances during their careers.
