Lake Forest Suffers First Conference Loss of the Season

The Forester volleyball team was defeated 25-20, 25-19, 25-22 by visiting Cornell College on Saturday. Lake Forest senior Molly McCloskey led all players in the match with 15 kills and she also recorded 11 digs.

Fellow senior Tia Rupnik matched McCloskey's dig total and sophomore setter Torie Pasiewicz led the home team with 16. Pasiewicz also finished with 29 assists.

The Foresters scored six of the match's first seven points and led by five again at 17-12 before the Rams rattled off five points in a row to tie the score. It was tied again at 20 when Cornell rallied for five unanswered points to win the set.

Cornell never trailed in set two, also the score was close throughout. The Rams broke a 16-16 tie with five straight points and neither team won on its own serve until the visitors' set point.

Lake Forest won the first two points on the third set but the Rams took the next three and never trailed again. The score was tied at 15 when Cornell rattled off five points in a row to take control again. The Foresters fought off a pair of match points before the Rams closed out the victory.

Lake Forest is now 12-7 overall and 3-1 in Midwest Conference play. Cornell raised its overall record to 11-10 and its league mark to 4-0.

The Foresters will play its final non-conference game of the regular season at home Wednesday night against Marian University. The contest will begin at 7:00 p.m.
